Our trainer, Jane Babinsky, has been working with dogs since 1978 when she got her first dog from the Seneca County Animal Shelter. After graduating from Heidelberg College she began a career as an Activities Therapist at Windsor Hospital in Chagrin Falls.
Jane soon found a need for dogs in a therapeutic setting so she began training her dog, Trixie, to be a therapy dog. That soon snowballed into a formal pet therapy program requested by several area hospitals and nursing care facilities. For many years Jane had her own pet therapy consulting business, Pet Oriented Therapy Service. Jane wrote and produced a pet therapy video, has been featured in several publications, appeared on news channels 3 and 5, and delivered several lectures and seminars (including one at an international conference in Monaco). She has been a member of Therapy Dogs International, Inc since 1984, an evaluator since 1994 and assisted with writing the TDI manual. Jane is also an AKC/CGC evaluator and a 4H Advisor. Besides nine years experience as an Activities Director she also has ten years experience as a Veterinary Assistant and is currently the Pet Editor for The Heart of Lake County Magazine.
Over the years Jane has titled several dogs in obedience. She was a training assistant with The Little Red Dog School, Mirkwood Kennels, an instructor for Youngstown All Breed Training Club and a Senior Pet Training Instructor for one of the “big box” pet stores. Breeds she has trained and owned include several Poodles, mixed breeds, Doberman, Westies, Cardigan Corgi, and Australian Shepherd. Jane stated that most of her dogs came to her as rescues with “issues”. Jane uses the reward system of training and tells her students that she is the instructor and they are the trainers.
